The Tathra Enduro is one of the few MTB events nationally , where riders get to experience coastal riding, whilst still in a bush setting.
The race courses for the King Nelba 100km, Goat’s Knob 50km, Doolagharl 20km and 10km Prologue all run adjacent to the ocean, with some spectacular views, and superb single-track.
The courses assume riders have previous mountain bike riding experience on single trail and fire roads. The events are designed to challenge, but be safe and fun.
Sections of the Tathra Enduro courses are located on private property. These trails will only be accessible on race day.
10km Prologue
This is a 10km time trial event.
The race will be staged on the Doolagharl single track at Tathra, with some fire road. This race does not go out onto the main road or State forest trails. It starts and finishes at the event hub at the Tathra Country Club. The single trail is not technically difficult, but does involve numerous hill climbs – and special descents. Watch out for the view of the Tathra Wharf.
Anyone can enter. You can book in advance or enter on the day.
Pssssst..........Entering this is a great way to get a sneak peak at some of the single track to be used in the 20km, 50km and 100km races.
Bega Cheese Childrens Race
This race is open to all children under 14 years of age.
There will be two courses. For young children there is a one-two lap ride on a flat track around the Tathra Country Club Oval and surrounding trails.
For older more skilled riders there is a 3km event that involves a single track hill climb and descent.
For both events the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment. Entry is FREE, but all children MUST register, prior to the race on the day.
Racing starts 2.30pm. All children to receive a goody bag for participation.
The Doolagharl 20km
The race will start and finish at the Tathra Country Club, and will be contested over the single trail behind Tathra, and on farmland in the Thompson’s River Estate. This race includes a bridging 1 km on tar. The event is a 40/60 mix of fire trail and single trail and is suited to those new to mountain bike riding, and those who haven’t quite got the fitness to tackle the 50km event.
It’s not technically difficult, and the course DOES NOT include the bridges.
In recognition of the Indigenous land owners the trail is called Doolagharl - meaning HairyMan or Yowie. Is a single track lovers dream. Seventy per cent of the 2012 course is single track. It’s not the white knuckle variety – rather the fun, flowing type of trail that leaves you with a grin from ear to ear. Naturally the course requires riders to be fit and have previous single track experience. Be aware the course has changed in 2012. You won’t need oxygen for altitude sickness, but there is still some climbing to be done. It’s those sneaky little climbs, that all add up......to about 1000m of the vertical stuff. The race starts at the Tathra Country Club, and heads through lower Doolagharl and up to the Tathra Thompson’s River Estate. In the first 10km there is some climbing. The event then heads over for a taste of Tathra fast Fire shed Single trail, and a fast blast into Boulder Bay, before touring the picturesque, Kangarutha. Save some energy for the Doolagharl finale as there’s some sting in the those closing climbs – before the yee-haa descent to the finish. There are two road crossings – where you will be required to stop and give way to traffic – and one linking stint on the tar. It can be disorientating in the bush. Amazingly riders in 50km event will never be further than 5km from Tathra. Fastest riders should complete the course in: 2hours15mins Drink stations are located at the 10km and 30km mark. A full diagram of the course elevation will be posted when the trail is completed in early March. It requires a high level of fitness and previous single track experience. Like the 50km – we’ve taken on board your feedback and tweaked the course in 2012. There’s still some “sadistic” climbs, but less of them – and more, lots more, single track. The race consists of two 50km loops, with riders returning to the event hub after the first 50km. Expect plenty of climbing – over 1800m - as the course follows a stepped ascent to the full height of Dr George Mountain. From the Tathra Country Club the course crosses the Bega River at Mogareeka and winds through the picturesque Fords Farm and up through the Mimosa Rocks National Park to the Mountain peak. The event then takes in some super fast forest trails, secret stashes of single track. Upon returning to the event hub – riders will then take on the full 50km course. (see above for details) Over 40km of the race is single trail, the remainder a mixture of double track logging trails and fire roads. There are several road crossings – where you will be required to obey the road rules, stop and give way to traffic. Fastest riders should complete the course in: 4hours30 minutes. Drink stations are located at 25km, 50km, 60km, and 80km marks. A full diagram of the course elevation will be posted when the trail is completed in early March.
